It's rare that you find face to face confrontations between major thinkers. That's the beauty of modern international transporation and communications--sometimes you can get these rare events to happen.
Though I disagree with Chomsky's philosophy and lean more towards Foucalut's, I am more in line with Chomsky's politics than Foucault's--at least at the time of this debate. Foucault later changed his political stance, though there's a very nuanced view of power relations that I think Chomsky is blind to.
This latter aspects of politics is stressed by Simone Weil, and it is something she learned from Machiavelli and which few Leftists--except perhaps Foucault--understand.

Whoa! Michel, "Uncle Phester" Foocault rocking it, tres sauvvage. MF: c'est filosophie continentale. I am more sympathetic to the Chomster in terms of politics (at least until 911 or so, when he started to sound rather Imam-like), but Foucault fairly impressive (in subtitles at least): or shall we say, the most coherent of the postmod freaks. Sort of Socratic to some degree, though quite f-ed up in other ways (and not just the uh decadent sorts). Anyone who admires Nietzsche, and hates pigs, psychiatrists, feminists and stalinists can't be all bad.................
perezoso: The Foucault of this video is early--what do you think of his later views, especially on care of the soul?
MF, for all of his phaults, knew the meaning of "cherchez la femme": or shall we say the metaphysics thereof--a point lost on the sentimental marxists and pheminists now trading on his name.
