"The Poor will Always Be with You"

Assuredly Jesus was not justifying the economic, social, spiritual explotiation of others. Look at both context of this verse and what follows the statement about the poor:

"Mar 14:7 For ye have the poor with you always, and whensoever ye will ye may do them good: but me ye have not always."

This verse echoes a verse in Deuteronomy, where it reads:

"Deu 15:11 For the poor shall never cease out of the land: therefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt open thine hand wide unto thy brother, to thy poor, and to thy needy, in thy land."

What Jesus is saying in this passage is that what the woman who is anointing him with precious nard is doing a service such as we are supposed to do to the poor.
