Will The Us learn its lessons from the Katrina catastrophe? As I have argued throughout this site, Katrina showed a face of the Us to the world that embarrasses, at the same time as it asks for redress. Conservatives like to talk about "endemic poverty," "generational poverty," and such concepts. Yet, the US is supposed to be a land where if you work hard and follow the rules you can make a way for yourself and for those you love.
What Katrina has showen is that poverty is the living reality for a minority in the US and that that minority suffers when nature wreaks its havoc.
